Mass Media Influence - part II

a profitable business, but film tycoons were still
(Part 2)
Currently commercials are an integral part of most media. They are the main source of profits for the television, the radio or Internet services. There is a great number of commercials in all media but unfortunately, some of them are intrusive and very often misleading. Advertisers try to entertain and attract the audience in different ways. Classical commercials have become boring for people. People have enough of a lady with a perfect smile, who is washing and then claiming that the clothes have never been so clear. People have enough of a lady, with the same smile as the previous lady, who is washing the floor and making it perfectly clear.

Such commercials are constantly present in media, and this is the reason why potential consumers more likely choose these well known products. Poles prefer to buy cheap products, but of a good quality. Therefore, products presented in such commercials convince consumers that buying them was a good choice. In example, there are commercials convincing that "just a blob" and everything shines.
So, how to make a commercial interesting? It should be something funny, catchy and eagerly quoted. For instance, many people associate the commercial with "the beaver, that knows the 1000 bits" with mobile telephony networks PLUS. The idea of hiring the popular cabaret in the TV commercial was the great idea and for sure it yielded profits.
"the beaver, that knows the 1000 bits" commercial
In short, commercials are often very tiresome and intrusive, but without them most of the mass media would not exist. In making commercials important is to find the catchy idea to present products to the audience.
Questions:

  • Some coffin salesman decided to use an image of half-naked women in the advertisement. What do you think about this idea?
  • How have commercials/advertisements hanged over time?

  1. Ads are a broad topic for discussion. It's easy to say that it's bad that commercials are everywhere. It's also easy to criticize they're usage of nudity and other gimmicks. Nonetheless no one has found a better way of funding most free things in the world. Would there be Google without context ads? Would there be 90% of TV stations?

  2. • Which commercial is most catchy? Share your opinion.
It really depends on a target; I like commercials which are not obvious and funny.

I wonder who is the target, because if I would have to bury my relative why should I choice coffin because there is half-naked woman in commercial? I don’t get it.
    • How have commercials/advertisements hanged over time?
I don’t pay enough attention to them so I’m unable to answer your question
    • In which medium commercials/advertisements are the most common?
I’d say on TV because you can’t simply ignore them.

  3. I agree with s3874, I don't like commercials, but without them TV stations would be closed, we couldn't watch films, interesting programmes or channels like discovery, tvn turbo (for me), and we wouldn't be able to check the news from all around the world supported by videos and clips which you can't find in the newspapers or radio.

  4. I think commercials should be funny, it's all about good idea. But of course it depends on what product someone want to advertise, who is the target. However using half naked woman in ads for me it just shows lack of creativity.
And about this coffin salesman ..to say something about it we should know much more:), what is the main idea of using half naked woman in this ad?.. don't understand
//I don't know much about history of commercial however I think long time ago when this whole thing was started people who made ads tried harder to do something interesting but with time ads getting stronger and stronger now we have much more nudity in ads ..maybe violence as well in general things which shock people.
TV is for sure medium we can call master of ADS. It has impact on all of us because of using some specific images sounds all tricks people who work in advertising agency know well:)

  5. I am of similar opinion as s8939. Commercials need to be funny; they need to attract people and shall be easily recognizable. And as it was said everything depends on the target, on the recipients. We need to associate a given product with its advertisement. Marketing specialists are working for months in order to make us associate e.g. a given song not with its producer but with the ad in which it was used. This is a really difficult craft and lots of tricks have been already used; therefore, they are also applying images of naked women. Commercial people would do everything to sell the product. They do not see any obstacles. They do not probably care if any of their commercial could harm or offend people. The aim is to advertise and to sell. The more people feel offended, the more people are aware that such a product exists. Even though recipients feel offended, after some time they would anyhow purchase the product. And the target will be achieved. If we consider the medium in which commercials are most often published or broadcasted, few years ago we would probably say TV. But the times have changed and now there are few magazines that are not earning money on commercials, not to mention TV and web pages. Even the streets are full of billboards showing the novelties of the market.

  6. I agree with Radosław Bruś and s3874, I don't like commercials and I don't like when my favorite film it's stopped just to play commercials;/
But I know that without advertising TV stations wouldn't have money to buy rights to play my favorite films:)
And I agree with s8939 and s5560 that commertcials should be funny:> When I must to watch them I would like to have a fun ;)

  7. Which commercial is most catchy? Share your opinion.

It's safe to say that the best commercials (most creative, innovative or simply niclely put together) are not the ones that are the most catchy. Commercials are designed to grasp your attention and make you want a product. They are often misleading in fact. Similarly to Michal, I like commercials which are not too straightforward.

Some coffin salesman decided to use an image of half-naked women in the advertisement. What do you think about this idea?

Obviously trying hard to get attention. Trying too hard if you asak me :)

How have commercials/advertisements hanged over time?

It's pretty impressive how commercials were developed over time. Nowadays they are aimed and tailored for a selected group of customers. Although many marketing methods are misused, ads can still be very effective in some social groups.

In which medium commercials/advertisements are the most common?

It's safe to say that they are used in every medium. I don't know which one is the most common, but I would say that TV as it has the biggest number of potential customers.

  8. How does it work? When someone sees or hears an ad, it cleverly puts in his head persuasion, convinces him that he should buy this and not another one.

Advertising opens the door through which young people fall in a world of consumption with the ever-growing list of needs, claims.

  9. 1. Colgate, well-known logo, can be easily identified and make association of what the commercial is all about.
    2. It is a good idea at least it will have a more likely higher viewership because of originality.
    3. They used to be flat, text with images but now its more like story-telling with motion pictures.
    4. I would have guess internet.
