COMMERCIALS part1

Hello Guys!
I want to write a little about commercials. I realize that this is very
controversial topic. Some of us just don't tolerate them, especially on TV
when they appear in the middle of some interesting movie or program. It can
be very annoying.
There are many kind of ads, too many to list each one. So I'll just
mention about a few. Most popular are these on radio, cinema and television.
On the street we can find some billboards or even human billboards as well..
Magazines, newspapers are in half full of ads. So in one sentence: they're
everywhere, well almost everywhere..

Triptych included billboards and car park installation, Ohio.

Oldtimer is a chain of restaurants around Austria

Advertisement of Bic Razors shows trimming potential of this product

Do you think we need so many commercials in our surroundings?
Let's think about arguments for and against advertising.
I think sometimes it's worth seeing some ads because maybe we can
discover a new product which can be useful for us or which we need badly.
It can be also cause of sales increase which leads to higher production, so
maybe more people could find a job because of it.
The biggest disadvantage in my opinion is that very often advertised
products don’t mean good products, I mean good quality. Sometimes
they’re simply harmful. So we should be careful. And in addition we tend
to buy things we don’t need just because of ad we’ve seen.
But next to regular commercials there is also different kind of
advertisement like social or political campaigns. Aim of these ads is not to
sell the product but to share some important information with people. Social
campaigns are usually about addictions to drugs or alcohol but also about
homelessness and other problems communities have to deal with. This is an
example of such a campaign organized in Vietnam by Asia Injury Prevention
Foundation:

Political campaigns are created to win the electorate over. Usually
it's very expensive especially in America where candidates use almost all
known methods to advertise themselves and show that they would be the right
person at the right post.

What impact do ads have on you?
Do you watch sometimes commercials on television or you simply change the
channel to try to avoid them?
Have you ever bought something you really didn't need to just because of
an ad?
Do you know any interesting campaigns?

  1. I like some commercials, but I hate that they are always louder then that movie. They have a huge impact on everybody and if someone states that they not it is a lie or lack of awareness. I`m a poor student so I can`t afford things I don`t need ;) I liked Axe campaign...

  2. I do agree with s5124, some ads are really funny and interesting, but it is irritating when you need to reduce the volume when the ads start. I need to admit that ads sometime influence my choices, I think that it is good especially when newly introduced products are being advertised. At last we have a chance to get to know that they in fact exist. With regard to the second question, I am not the person who is changing the channels, I prefer to reduce the volume:) Considering purchase of things we do notreally need, I think that each of us purchased lots of such things many times;)

  3. Sometimes when I'm just tired of all those billboards etc. I think of the world with no commercials. It seems like an idyllic place where there are buildings, trees and other stuff instead of rectangular boards with photos of products. This world doesn't have commercial breaks during movies in TV, news portals have a content instead of flash popups and my mailbox is filled with postcards, not ads.

But then I realize that I would have to pay for much more things. Would it be better? I really don't know.

  5. I agree with s514 and Maciej, some commercials may be interesting and funny, however their numbers and moments when TV stations put them is often very annoying!! I'm very nervous when I watch a movie and after 5 minutes they insert 15 minutes ads - and it goes on and on and on... Then I change channels or I simply record interesting programs and scroll through advertisements :) Ads don't get to me - I'm somehow immune to them - and I buy only what I know and what I need;) I like some plusgsm ads;) some of them are really funny.

    I can't see any images;(

  6. I always change the channel when I see commercials. Besides if it has any influence on your decisions (commercials of course)try to act like an adult. Only children are excited because they saw new toy and now they want it so badly.

  7. I never watch commercials, but I can see some when I change channels. I won’t buy something because I saw it in a commercial, I’ll buy it only when somebody from my friends recommend it. But what can I say, in Poland we have to many commercials and I know that it is the biggest profit for these companies like Polsat, Tvn or others. And if they stop broadcasting commercials during the movies they will go bankrupt and we won’t be able to watch some good movies, some news from our globe, interesting programs or tests.

  8. What impact do ads have on you?

Most of the cases - none. Really, I have been interested in the mechanisms of ads and I can safely say that once you know them you don't care what they say, you simply look at the product for what it is and what can you expect from it.

Do you watch sometimes commercials on television or you simply change the
channel to try to avoid them?

As you rarely find an interesting ad, I avoid them. I used to go to "Noc reklamozercow" in Multikino. Without a doubt commercials presented there where far better than the ones we usually see on mass media.

Have you ever bought something you really didn't need to just because of an ad?

No, rarely do I buy stuff on an act of impulse

  9. Commercials tell us up first that we are missing something, and then wishes to sell it to you.

My favorite example is the advertising campaigns for Garnier "clean skin. Ganier - take care of yourself." Clean skin is the one that is scraped with sandpaper (peeing) and has any pores. In television thy show so much artificialness that a usual person is convinced that if he or she is not using their products then their skin is dirty and thy does not take care of themselves.

Luxury products are not necessarily the best, only those in which there is more emotion expressed in socially valued symbols of wealth.

  10. 1. It just gives me an partial idea of what are the latest products/service offered on the market.
    2. I do watch the commercials on television between programs or breaks during a program.
    3. NEVER!
    4. Heneiken and CoCaCola advertise music festivals sponsored by them on television.

  11. I don't like commercials when I watch tv or surfing on websites. I always try ignore them. I know advertisments don't show me that something is good quality. There isn't their aim. If something is good - we know it and don't need big billboards or breaks in the movie. For example: food. In television we all the time see healthiest yoghurts for our child. It's not true because we can find some cheaper and better. We must be carefull and when we are buying we have to guided by thinking and no commercials.

  13. 1. I don't feel any special impact other than I feel informed that someone lunched a new product.
    2. Sometimes I watch them but usually I just go and make some tea.
    3. Some food products - like a green coffee - it was horrible.
    4. Usually those made for popular brands - like Coca Cola, Nike, Sony etc
