Part three: The future of Electric Vehicles.

Hi persistent readers :) It is the last part of my presentation… :)

Present motorization is based almost entirely on internal combustion engines using gasoline and diesel. Slowly place to deal with bio-fuels fuel market, but with high oil prices and they are relatively expensive. We talk a lot about hydrogen, liquid fuels produced from coal (Coal To Liquid) or biomass (Biomass To Liquid), but really the future of motorization are electric cars.

Electric car has many other advantages. It is very easy to use, there is no clutch or gearbox, it is silent, constant torque is available at any speed, requires no new infrastructure (such as E85), or even existing - to charge you can plug it into any electrical outlet. In Warsaw, a few (free) stations for charging electric vehicles.

There are lot of the concepts of electric cars, as well as finished cars and prototypes, interesting list can be found at:

The most known company producing electric cars is Tesla Motors.

Tesla Motors is an American automobiles enterprise dealing with the production of passenger cars with electric drive.

At the moment, Tesla Motors produces a model of the car which is the Tesla Roadster. This is a roadster sports car designed in partnership with Lotus, the design of tesla is close to the Lotus Elise

The head of Tesla Motors predicts that by 2020 electric cars that have a large range will be very cheap. Progress will be fast enough that even in 2030 the only car sold in the United States will be electric . The target, in mid-century, is the most vehicles riding on roads will be electric. Sounds interesting? Is it possible?

In my opinion the great electric car is Eliica - the eight wheeled electric limousine from Japan.

Elica is a prototype electric 8 person limousine designed in Tokyo (shown in 2004). The Eliica weighs 2,400 kg, its power is 640 hp and top speed is 370km/h!!!

Questions:

1. Do you know other interesting electric vehicles/cars?

2. From the text: Is it possible that in 20-30 years we'll only ride electric vehicles?

3. Do you think the future belongs to electric cars? Why?

  1. Is it possible that in 20-30 years we'll only ride electric vehicle?

I don't know but I hope so. I really fear for the future of environment. And it could be a real salvage. I know that electric vehicles are now extremely expensive but on the other hand everything what is new cost a lot of money.

I really would like to have one of them if they weren’t so ugly:)

    2) It is possible, becouse according to forecasts for 30-40 years will end all oil deposits in the world, but you should pay attention also to other types of units are tested for many years, such as plasma propulsion. Also at that time can be discovered even more interesting drive that will impress the world.
Because we must remember that electric drive is quiet - boring drive, it is not the same as a five-liter V-eight. Her sound and performance work.

"Do you think the future belongs to electric cars? Why?"

It's all matter of economic efficiency, better and cheaper product will win.

Personally I don't care at all if it's electric or diesel, what I'd like to have is computer controlled car :)

  4. I love this idea!!
It is really worth investing in these types of vehicles, if only I will ever afford it, so you will certainly buy it.
So far I do not know any type of such vehicles; (

I think this is really forward-looking idea, certainly in the short time you will get more such ventures.

Michael, cars full of electronics, do not always seem to test ... I have a friend who drives a Audi A8. One day, he drove a car suddenly went off the road and entered the fields. To him, nothing happened, even the airbags did not open, but the computer went crazy and the car had to be towed.

  5. This Japanese limousine is awesome! It looks almost like a spaceship for me :D I would like to have a ride!

I agree it's likely that electric cars will dominate in future. Nevertheless I don't believe that changes will come so quickly all over the world. It depends on country's legislation and wealth of its citizens. Let's see what vehicles are driven in USA, compare it to cars in Poland and then let's look at the streets in India.

I'm really sorry but my knowledge about cars is minuscule so I can't write about any other interesting models of electric cars. I'm a typical woman - first I look at the color of a car, then about its safety and finally if it needs a lot of petrol (or anything else that I would have to pay for). Other things are too difficult for me:D

  6. Powered only by electricity?? Unfortunately I don't know any one;/
If for 20-30 years there will not be oil or gas it's probable that we will drive only electric vehicles. But now the time will show everything.
I realy don't know. We don't know what technology will be in next few years.

  7. As I wrote earlier that the world is moving to electric vehicles. Currently, the biggest problem is not the vehicle itself, but its batteries. If the temperature issue is resolved I believe that diesel cars will be a beautiful reminder of the times of oil. Personally I would gladly have ridden such a vehicle, if not for the high price of purchase. I'm only worried about recycling cell. But I believe that manufacturers will not harm the Earth. Currently, Toyota introduced the all-electric model. This is a perfect car to the city, but the price is too high (160k PLN). Therefore, most likely will be used by rental companies.

  8. We have to start producing/using alternative ways of transport. According to the scientists calculation our oil reservoir would be vanished after 15-20 years from now. The prices become higher and suddenly we stuck without any other option. Future belongs to electricity, hydrogen cells, bio fuels and sea water. Although we can have carrot-cars. I remember few years ago students from Polish university developed engine powered by carrot juice. That would be nice. When you wwould be run out of gas, you could step in to the nearest bar: "double carrot juice - shaken, not stirred - I'm with car."

  9. As far as I know, even in Poland there are researches on electric vehicles. Polish company – Romet, had presented a new car called 4e, which is driven by fully electric engine.
Answer for second question is quite obvious – of course it is possible. Moreover, I believe in 7 years percentage of using electric cars will rise significantly. Why I believe so? Ecological way of thinking and increasing prices of fuel will lead to find and improve alternative solutions – such as electric vehicles.

    Nissan Leaf.

    >2. From the text: Is it possible that in 20-30 years >we'll only ride electric vehicles?

That's quite possible. I hope we do. :) But we should remember that even if we move on to the electric cars we still don't have clean, renewable energy source.

    >3. Do you think the future belongs to electric cars? >Why?

I think that future belongs to the electric cars because they should be cheaper in the exploitation. I think that because people could focus on making more efficient power plants instead of making more efficient engines.

If you watch "Top Gear" you can find out that Lotus's cars tend to perish. So I don't know if we should be happy about the Lotus involvement in it. We can go even further and speculate that Lotus involvement in electric cars is strictly for sabotaging purposes.
