Why Polish football is so weak?

Recently, we have been able to watch two football matches of Poland. One of them with Argentina and the second with France. I watched both and what I can say that we are lagging behind the greatest teams of the world. Our game is slow, chaotic and has no technique. We do not have our own style. I remember France in the World Cup 2010 - they had a problem, but only with the coach. They have world class players. It was enough to change the coach and relationships immediately have improved and now the game is really good. We could find that out yesterday.

Poland has a bigger problem than France because we do not have football schools, there are not many world class players, we do not have enough good coaches, and the PZPN (Polish Football Association) is far from what is happening on Polish stadiums. We all suspect that PZPN wants only to make money but does not care about the football. Polish football hit the bottom.

We need to consider what makes that some countries are still on the top or easily jumped to the front. As is known world is ruled by money and it also relates to football. World-class clubs have unlimited budget in relation to the Polish finance, but this is not the only reason : they have clubs where they teach how to play football to groups of talented kinds (Ajax Amsterdam, FC Barcelona). In Poland football schools are rare. Education of a player is much cheaper than ‘buying’ good players. A very big impact on our club league’s level have league competitions where there are too few matches for a big stake, because usually only 2-3 teams are fighting for the championship.

A Great impact on the representation has selection and training. Many countries such as Germany and Russia after the failure of tournaments radically changed the training system in their countries. When the coach Hiddink arrived in Russia they changed his style to Dutch, while the Germans began to monitor their most talented players, they make periodic examinations and visit their clubs.

A very important thing in football is also a tactic. Representation coaches have no impact on the preparation of players, as they work with them for so little time, so the choice of tactics for the opponent is the most important thing (it was showed by the Greek footballers at Euro 2004 where they won the gold medal and weren’t even the favorite to leave their group) .

Questions:
  • What is your opinion about Polish football?
  • Do you believe that the worst football times are behind us and now it will be only better?
  • Do you believe in the success of Poland in EURO2012?

  1. My opinion about Polish football is very negative. I wonder if someone will answer in opposite way. I'm not a fan of football but I heard that our junior teams are rather good. That's interesting if we think about reasons of our failures.

I'm afraid there are no premises to think that bad times have just passed. Or, maybe we have some fresh success and I don't know about it.

I don't believe in any spectacular success of Polish team in 2012. Well, there's a tendency to let hosts play as long as possible, but I'm afraid it won't help us enough. Of course, our players will feel bigger pressure and support than usually, but we are to weak to fight for the podium.

  2. 1. Polish soccer is not weak, we have many great players, it just not profitable to play well because they are bribed or they earn too little, none of them are not interested, they're not motivated, no one supports them, etc..

    2. We will wait for Euro2012 .. if will be in our country ...

  3. I do not like to watch Polish football, firstly because of hooligans, and secondly because of the level presented by our teams and players. What I think is that we should strongly invest in young people as you wrote like Ajax, Barcelona or Arsenal. Train them, teach technique etc. - not nationalize some players having Polish roots of grandfathers grandfather. Ofcourse it would take time but if think it is worth to do it.
One good step is that there a lot of Orliks where people can play on a good football pitch. Next step is to set up schools where young could practice.
As to Euro 2012 it is good that we have qualified :P (as we are hosts we have guaranteed that if someone does not know). I am realistic and if we won somehow at least one game it will be great success..

  4. i truly believe that the state should take back any donations made to polish football: dismiss the PZPN and imprison them, forget stadiums - who the hell needs stadiums while we don't have highways!! let private investors build it!

  5. Usually I'm not a pesimist but in this question I am. For me polish football doesn't exist :-). We don't have a team... we have few (good) individualities.
In my opinion polish footballers and PZPN could prove us that it could be worse :)
Do I believe in success in euro? The heart leads to believe but the mind tells me that we will fall soon.

  6. It could be surprising, but I have a very positive opinion about Polish football and football at all. Everyone sees only drawbacks of this topic, that our players are bad and there are coruption and so on. But we have to note that the football is also a fun.

There are a lot of people in Poland who loves this sport, they try their best to win but they are not able to. And so what? It is their passion and we should undarstand it. Most of us even have no idea about the football and we only assess others. Why we do that? Maybe we want to raise our self-esteem?

I have some advice for those who try to easily asses playres. Try to do their job better. If you can't, just root them as best as you can. Treat the game as a fun. It would be better for all - players and fans.

Of course, I am really happy if some day they will started to win. But by now I keep my fingers crossed and have a great fun.

  7. Actually I'm not a specialist in that topic. Maybe because I'm not so keen on football/soccer. But I have also very weak opinion about our football quality. Why Polish football is so poor? Because we have the same PZPN. We change trainers, players but we don't do anything with the law. As far as I know football players earns huge amounts of money and they received special bonus for a goal. So everybody is trying to shoot the goal separately just to receive financial bonus.

Yes, definitely the worst time is behind us...but before us - also.

I do not belief in our success at finishing all preparation to EURO 2012, and what is more in our soccer team victory.

  8. Well... I am not keen on football at all. Maybe if Polish team were better I would watch some matches. On the other hand If I were a good fan I would believe in their success even when they are failing. So we can draw a conclusion that I just don't like football or I like but not in Poland. When I was in Barcelona or in France I was going to watch some matches with a real pleasure. Probably I did it due to a uncommon atmosphere of that countries and character of people.

Frankly speaking it is not a topic for me. I have almost nothing to say to the point. The only one thing I can say is that the logo of EURO2012 is just horrible. As a matter of fact it is not even a logo but an illustration. I don't know who choosed it but I am sure that he or she wasn't a proper person who should make that decision.

    What else...?
Well I hope that one day our team will show that they are worthy of keeping fan's fingers crossed:)

  9. I'm not interested in football at all so I won't be able to add much more to this discussion but I can fully agree with Jakub, it should be privatized asap.

  10. I also am not a fan of football. However, sometimes watching the matches Polish representation it is easy to see that their level is not high. Surely the problem is the Polish Football Association, may bad staff training ..
Of course I believe in Poland which will reach the top of the EURO 2012. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the win.

  11. What is your opinion about Polish football?

Overpaid - too much funds. We should focus on disciplines where we have good players and some successes (like for example volleyball or handball).

Do you believe that the worst football times are behind us and now it will be only better?

Nope. The problem is: football players get paid even if they do shitty job (as opposed to real jobs where when you fail you don't get paid).

Do you believe in the success of Poland in EURO2012?

I heard that host's team has always some "head start" like gentler referees etc.

  12. I am not a supporter of football, perhaps accompanied by great emotion, but really, Polish football hooligans many loses through.

It is difficult to speak about this, if someone is not interested in this, but I think if it had not wasted money on all these corruption scandals, that you would really go far. At the end of the Pole can:)

As for the championship in 2012, then I think it will flap.
