Obesity around the world -part II

In the first part of my presentation I tried to point out the problem of obesity around the world. Second part of my presentation focuses on the ways to prevent obesity, namely proper diet. However I do not want to give you any advice what diet you should use to get slimmer. I would like to talk about the so called “miraculous diets” that people use to lose weight in a very short time.

Believe it or not but with slim fast diet you are supposed to eat 6 meals a day. 2 meals should be slim fast products and one snack. The rest of the meals should include one fourth protein, one fourth starch and half of vegetables.

Slim fast is only one of many diet programs used to help people lose weight. Apart from slim fast there are also many other easily accessible products that help you better burn calories and lose weight.



Do you know any of such products or miraculous diets? Have you ever used any of them?

Unfortunately, in today’s world TV has created an image of people that are forever young, beautiful and slim. In most cases this picture of celebrities being almost perfect is achieved with the help of photoshop. However, teenagers look at those distorted pictures and strive to be just like their idols.



This phenomenon might have very negative results leading to health problems with young people.

Please do not let anybody fool you, fast diets help only in the short run. There are many downsides of fast diets. The most common ones are as follows:

- You might lose weight quickly but when you stop taking care for yourself you gain weight even quicker
- Most of diets can lead to your starvation because you only eat shakes and a piece of fruit, many people claim that they are simply hungry while dieting. So if you think that you will be able to eat 6 meals and get slimmer you are wrong
- Most quick diets are expensive.
- Not everybody likes the taste of such diet – if you do not like the taste of it how can you continue eating something that you don’t like for a long time?
- Diets can also lead to many illnesses and in extreme cases cause anorexia or bulimia
- Products such as slim fast contain huge amounts of sugar that can cause diabetes when used for a long time

The best way to lead a healthy lifestyle is simply to take care of your body in a natural way. That means lots of exercising. In my next part of the presentation I will present some sport disciplines that can help you stay fit and healthy without using any of the “miraculous diets”

  2. In my opinion there are no such diets. "Miraculous diets" are only a commercial fully based on the human weaknesses and mentality. All of them give an illusory temporary results which disappear immediately after diet been finished. Obesity backs with the multiply effects - called 'yoyo'. Products like slim-fast or aqua-slim are only fakes, giving you false feeling about your fat-burning process. Like a stupefaction of brain. Few years ago I was persuaded to try 'Herbalife' products to keep your body slim. It's kind of a powder contains some micro-elements helping reduce your fat or something. I remember it tasted like crappy mud mixed with dirt. Not recommend, for sure

  3. I think that miraculous diets do not help you lose weight. Temporarily they do but not in the long run. There are no miraculous diets and all the diets present on the market aim at making money. The best diet is to control you food intake and do lots of sport and exercises.

    If you want to stay slim go to the gym, cycle a lot, swim, play some ball in general do a lot of sport. Nothing else will help you lose weight.

    I think that slim fast is only a placebo. People, when told that it will help them lose weight immediately change their minds. They believe what they are told even though this product might or might not work as good as they think. I do not think that using slim fast is necessary. I know lots of people who by means of their own strong will made up their mind that they want to lose weight and they did it. Slim fast is for wimps in my opinion.

  4. I don't believe in these miraculouse diets. I agree with Tomasz Frender that this 'diets' are only commercial and with this that they give a temporary result. Generally I think that this type of diet it's evil;].
    I know and I prefer healthy and active lifestyle. This is a more effective than this whole miraculouse diets.
    Slim fast?? I agree with Hubert that this is only a placebo and I don't believe in it.

    I disagree. Most of the teenagers (and probably adults :)) follow the gossip websites where you can see all your "perfect" celebrities without photoshop and sometimes even without makeup. And you can see how the photoshoped photos differ from the real-ones. Maybe your statement was correct before the Internet and digital cameras but now no-one is safe from paparazzi. I also think that the corporations make fool out them-selfs because of this perfect photoshopes. :)

    If anyone turns on the radio all you can hear is weight-loss ads, so yes I am aware that they exists. For me your example of miraculous diet is invalid because this diet has it's good sides like eating more protein which improves digestion and feeds the muscles. You should give as example of miraculous quick fix diets in which you have to starve yourself to lose weight. Eating more healthy doesn't equal miraculous diet. Get your facts straight.

    Sugar also cause overweight/obesity - just so you know. Overweight/obesity also causes diabetes.

    If eating less is miraculous diet then yes.

    I think that you don't have to use any of such products. They probably don't work after all.

  8. I have to admit that I have tried some diets and medicines which are helping with losing a weight. All of the products are ineffective except L-carnitina ( it helps only if you are training) What more I confess that I am crazy about my weight. I am not fat but when I put on weight even two kilograms I feel it immediately and I become angry. I used many diets and I am still unsuccessful. My problem is that I love cooking and baking. It is my passion and I just cannot give up eating some fresh and crunchy bread rolls...For me it is impossible. I know that I should accept my body and my nature but it is not so easy. Maybe one day I will.

  9. 1. As far as I know diets are first of all unhealthy and no diet will replace sport.

    2. For now I eat what I want and when I want. I drink a lot of Coke, eat in Fast Foods and I am fan of pizza and still I am like a model ;)

    3. As I mentioned before I don’t have problem s with my weight so I don’t know any magical methods.

  10. don't get crazy about your weight. that's totally stupid. forget all those diets, it's designed to make money on you. stay yourself and don't believe the bloody tv or anything you see in those colourful magazines. that's the only way to stay happy, everything else will be just struggling.

  11. Most of you have probably already heard about Dukan's diet. Currently it is extremely popular way of thinning and furthermore very effective. It bases on deficiency of some components in our meals. In short you eat only proteins like skimmed milk, cottage, white meat and fish. Our organism assimilates only some small quantity of proteins and the rest is removed. That process requires much energy from the organism that's why we lose a weight really quickly. I know many people who have already tried Dukan's diet with succes.

    Unfortunately it is very unhealthy diet which acidifies our organism and deprive it of vitamins and minerals.

    What is more people like me who are not able to digest the lactose (the main component of dairy products) couldn't used that diet because the organism can't cope with such a huge amount of proteins.

  12. I think none of the diet list won't give you any satisfactory result without changing your lifestyle. What is the most important thing in losing your weight is in my opinion obey the simple rules. For example no eating after 7 o'clock, be more active, do some exercises..
    I've never tried any of these miraculous diets, because just like Krzysztof I've never had any problem with my weight, lucky me:) but still I feel I have to follow some rules to stay slim.
    I am not so sure if these slim fast products you mentioned are good for your health and do they really help.,

  13. I think that all those miraculous diets are bad. Ofcourse you may lose 10 kg using them in short time, but it is not healthy way, and you may suffer from other things. In my opinion you should work hard, have a lot of movement and also discipline with food to lose kilograms so that they will not come back and you will not suffer from other diseases

  14. I I tried Dukan's Diet and I am very happy with it. I like meat, so it was not for me a great challenge. Except for one small detail completely limited sweets. At the beginning it was very hard to not fry delicacies, but when the third consecutive time I had to start all over again (because these are the rules) is a completely stopped taking sweets.

    I feel much better having a few pounds less and I'm happy with the result. Diet is not everything, and you should combine it with exercises.

    I also believe that Slim Fast products are very unhealthy for the body and can cause stomach ulcers. I do not recommend also to speed up the fat burning pills, because after their withdrawal is a giant yo-yo effect.

    To lose weight is a very simple method - the movement and strength of will.
    Not snacking and healthy eating, because gaining weight by the fact that your body's metabolism is disturbed.

  15. I Think That miraculous diets can 'help loosing weight. After such a diet if you do not change eating habits will return the original weight. I've never tried this diet and do not intend to. It seems to me that the regular practice of sport is the best way to reduce weight. Running 2 times a week will improve health, reduce weight and mood. Using additional supplements are not needed. I do not believe in their operation, just the opposite, I believe that their conduct may harm health.

  16. Every miraculous diets which we can see on TV or read in the newspaper there are waste of time. This is caused because miraculous diets restricted us to provide to our body essential ingredients. If your body doesn't have enough vitamins - you feel hungry and you want eat more something else. This is reason why Miraculous Diets Designers make a money on their diets. They know you can't live on diet all the time because it's unhealthy and hard to do.

    Dukan's Diet is very dangerous for people because it harms the kidneys and liver. This is for crazy people who at any price want to lose weight, without looking at health.

    The best way to losing weight is to eat healthily according to the basic principles of nutrition, but in this way our body needs the time.

  17. Miraculous diets are not only ineffective but simply dangerous. You
    can seriously harm yourself. A person should eat reasonably and avoid
    empty calories – like sweets and products high in fat.

    There are of course special cases, like people with genetic tendencies
    to be overweight, and for those there are medicinal products, but such
    products should be prescribed by doctor.

    From my own experience one of the best diets is moving out of your
    parents’ house. Once you live on your own and have to buy food on
    your own you tend to eat much less.

    Generally eating less but more often is a good way to loose weight. I
    heard also that sleeping can be an important factor. If you’re not
    getting enough sleep you can easily get overweight. Also you
    shouldn't eat before your sleep as well.
