"True greatness is clothed in simplicity" or as "less is more" cross-section of different fields of contemporary art.

"True greatness is clothed in simplicity" or as "less is more" cross-section of different fields of contemporary art.

The main character of my consideration will be Minimalism - trend in the art in the 60s of XX century. Its creators are Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Donald Judd, Carl Andre, Robert Duran and in Poland Stefan Kurylowicz. They used basic geometric shapes and composition. Their works were characterized by smooth surface, often scaled to eliminate the "trace copyright and create an atmosphere of anonymity of the author.

Sterility, meditation, silence, stillness, calm and contemplation are adequate to the idea of its mainstream.

After a short presentation, I am inviting you to wander through the various fields of contemporary art. in order to discover the beautiful art of minimalist simplicity.

Undoubtedly the first place in the ranking of minimalist design, in my opinion, takes Apple, which indeed timelessly presents its simplicity and product minimalism.

Starting from a rather complicated first logo, which we do not necessarily associate with the computer company, through rainbow, nibbled vectors apple we get to the silver logo of one of the biggest computer market tycoons.

These products are designer on the basis of simple lines and unique production technology.

The simplicity makes the items everyday contemporary art exhibits.

Noteworthy are also some of the graphic designers, e.g. Jerzy Nowosielski.

He is one of my favorite artists.

Metaphorical representation of the body making erotic poses have grown into a titre of holiness. The precision and brilliant predisposition to redraw the form, gives them an unusual character. The author brings us forward to the iconic character.

You can not pass by a very intriguing architectural object, which was made in Japan. It is called the Ghost House and is undoubtedly worthy of calling home spirits. But spirits of contemporary art.

A seemingly very trivial structure, form and sterility create an extraordinary result, e.g. like a little house of cards. The building is not only ready for occupation, but also open to any variations in its interior decoration.

Minimalist approach to art characterizes also the artist who inspired me with his posters and art.

I often come back to the work of this artist and I look for inspiration in creating my future work

To sum up, I believe that minimalism in modern art occurred, not because it was something quite different from splendor, gilt or excess of color, but because people continued to find its way to help find themselves in the world of art.

Thanks to it, everyone can see the work of minimalist in its different way. There is no bad interpretation, and it is just different, unique and original.

What is your opinion about the minimalist art style?

  1. I’m really keen on Minimalism Art trend but I rather observe that style in interior design. Things look nice, light and well considered.
Today fashion style recommend minimalism in almost everything. People are laughing “Yesterday you had to wade across heaps of clothes to see a piece of women’s body. Today you have to split the buttocks to see piece of a pants”. I really do to recommend minimalism way in previously mention interior design but most of people find that style – cold and ‘un-homely’.

Actually my favorite author didn’t create Minimalism Art. First is German painter and printmaker – Albrecht Durer the greatest artist of Northern Renaissance. Second is Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi (aka Giambattista) famous for his antique art passion and Etching (that’s king of art Etch techniques) process of using strong acid to sculpt in unprotected parts of a metal surface. You can easily find their work at Internet. There are lot of them.

  2. I support any kind of art style and that is why I also support the minimalist art style. I am a great fun of all minimalists styles and things that are tiny but functional are of an interest to me. Stillness and silence are necessary in the art since there is too much of “noise” in today’s world.

No I do not think that all contemporary art is timeless if you look at the art from the previous centuries. Art from the previous centuries outlived and will outlive many changing currents and styles in art. It is hard to find any contemporary art that would be timeless in today’s world.

My favorite author is Paulo Coelho since his books are read all over the world. He writes very interesting books.

The style of art that most suits me is impressionism due to the representatives painter of this kind of art such as Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. I admire them the most and therefore I admire impressionism.

  3. If minimalism means snobbism Apple is the best. I don’t have any knowledge of art, however I cultivate minimalism in designing of houses. Simplicity and enough space are factors that I need most in my flat.
For me art is Commodore64 and now modern doings on Demoscene in Poland. In my opinion all kinds of art will be somehow remembered by the future generations, just the way it is with Commodore fans.
Recently I became real fan of Booze Design and Instinct Group. They are digital artists who can make miracles from 8bit computers with CPU with speed of 1 MHz and 64kB of RAM. Recently the published astonishing DEMO titled Mekanix. You wouldn’t believe that it was made on such computer. I strongly believe that such works will became the legacy of our times and traditional art will not be remembered that well.

  4. I really enjoy looking at minimalistic things. It's good when you're not overwhelmed by million things at one time. I don't have any favourite artists or paintings, I just like the idea itself. I just dug a wallpapper I've made last year - http://pub.kamilszadkowski.com/design/dylm.png may be somebody's gonna like it :)

  5. Minimalist design has been highly influenced by Japanese traditional design and architecture.
If artists do something usable to us, I think that it is good and simple :P style :)

Do you think that contemporary art is timeless?
(Nothing is timeless ;)) Why we can say that: "Contemporary art" is timeless? - history do that not us, we live in "Contemporary art".

What is your favorite author? What style of art do you like?
Id don't like art, but i like good designers like:
    Karim Rashid - http://www.karimrashid.com/ or
    David Lewis - http://www.davidlewisdesigners.com/

  6. I don’t think that „contemporary art” is a proper definition. Frankly speaking I don’t think that in our situation we can talk about an art. For me most of the works which are currently created have nothing connected with an art. I talking specially about a painting or sculpture. Have you ever been in Zachęta? Formerly it was a really great place but now… sorry for that but they are presenting a trash. Nowadays everyone can be an „artist” even if he/she have anything to show. They are so desperate to be famous and known that they do the most easy thing- shocking but in a very simple and primitive way. For me the best example of that is Dorota Nieznalska whose the most famous work is an installation with man's genitals on the cross or naked women lying on symbols of four religions. Is it an art? I don’t think so. An art is the metaphysics. Perhaps currently people are not able to feel in such a metaphysical way, perhaps they are focused on money and fame to much or maybe they are just hollow.
I don’t claim that nowadays the real artists don’t exist. Of course they exist and create but they are in minority. I just want to say that we should be more careful when we are using a word „art” or „artist”

  7. @Krzysztof Wołk
For me demoscene is IT snobbery. Making miracles that work on 1mhz is useless. So what if you can do those miracles if making them takes ages. It is just pointless proof of concept. When C programming language was introduced it was slower than assembler (and still is) but the point is to develop software faster and lose less time on debuging.

    >What is your opinion about the minimalist art style?
    "I'm lovin' it." :)

    >Do you think that contemporary art is timeless?
    Yes, I really do.

    >What is your favorite author?
Don't have any but I like Burton's posters and "Lost" logo. Sorry for shallowness - art is not my major.

    >What style of art do you like?
    Minimalism.
