Part three: Can we stop global warming?

Even though the global warming is in big part caused by nature as well as its considered a natural process, everyone of us can use simple tips to contribute to lowering global CO2 emissions. Here is a list of things in my opinion everyone of us can do:
1. Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
2.Choose energy efficient appliances when making new purchases
3.Unplug electronics when they are not in use, because they still take up energy.
4.Buy recycled paper products and recycle as much of your waste as possible.
5.Bring your own reusable canvas grocery bags when grocery shopping.
6.Cover your pots while cooking
7.Choose products that come with little packaging and buy refills when you can
8.Buy locally grown and produced foods
9.Keep your car tuned up
10.Plant a tree
Below interesting picture showing further how global warming can be prevented

Here is an interesting quiz about “Man's Destruction of the Environment”

http://curiosity.discovery.com/topic/environmental-protection/mans-destruction-environment-quiz.htm

To sum up, should we believe that the global warming is a fact. Though I think that everybody can judge themselves. I think, in case of the global warming problem would be real, we should take care of our planet in every way we can.

Q

1. Explain witch activities we should start or stop practicing to help preventing global warming.
2. Which one do you think has a bigger impact on earth’s changing temperature, human or nature?

14 comments:

  1. 1) Shut down the Sun :), kill all livestock, start nuclear winter :)

    2) Impact of humanity is neglible, even livestock is emmiting more CO2 but it doesn't really matter because climate changes are mainly caused by sun activity not CO2.

What we could do is to build some defences against flooding etc. in endangered places.

  2. Recycling is definitely good idea to try to prevent GW. We can start from sorting out our garbage. I know that in Poland is not so easy because even if we do this at home then in many places there's just no "recycling bins" where we can put it. I know also that in many countries in Europe exists kind of obligation to sort trash. Why it's not popular here, in our country? I think each one of us has to take care of our earth and try to convince others to do the same.
What we can do as well is to choose bikes instead of cars and buses:) it's healthier not just for the planet but also for ourselves.

I think it's pretty obvious that human being has a bigger impact on global warming but iam not an expert:) people do what they can to make their lives more comfortable. And what is good for us not necessary is good for our planet. People are very harmful for nature bacause of many reasons so let's start to help our earth, start recycle, use more ecological products and change our light bulbs for fluorescent one:)

  4. I will not answer those questions, but I can comment “Can do” list:

1.Its not so simple. Eco bulbs are so much expensive, and to start they need more energy.

2.Choose energy efficient appliances when making new purchases – for me it's not main argument to buy anything. If two things are the same but one is more efficient and cost the same I will choose this one.

3.Unplug electronics when they are not in use, because they still take up energy – I cant see myself go under the desk and unplug something.

4.Buy recycled paper products and recycle as much of your waste as possible – Yes I will – who am I kidding, that impossible :)

5.Bring your own reusable canvas grocery bags when grocery shopping – government took care of it.

6.Cover your pots while cooking – I prefer do cooking as I like to do...

7.Choose products that come with little packaging and buy refills when you can – I don't really understand this point.

8.Buy locally grown and produced foods – I try too buy best for me, so sometimes I'm buying local food

9.Keep your car tuned up – I hate those, but I have motorcycle and its almost eco :)

10.Plant a tree – Where? In my room? Did You know, its illegal to plant a tree in someone else's land?

I've got a question for the author.
Which points from this list You do?

  5. Do you remember last winter? It was something like -30 degrees and snow was falling for 2 months all the time. So where we have this global warming ?:)

Last year or 2 years ago it was some eco conference in Poznan about this problem and someone stole e-mails from one of participant's computer. It appears that this whole global warming thing is just marketing issue. I don't know if it is true, but who cares about global warming? I think ordinary people cannot change much. Maybe some constrains on industries will help.

  6. The core of my presentation is to attract your attention on to this topic.

I want to know your opinion about this and your interpretations, your effort is appreciated.

I personally do not choose sides on the debates that centered global warming.I do not care if global warming is a solid-fact or jiggery-pokery

  7. Last time I saw very interesting documentary film on Discovery. In this film very wise people, also scientists say that global warming it is a mistification. It is another good topic to make money. They also said that in South America grow some kind of specific forest which produce more CO2 than all people in the world. So it is all one big lie. And way to make money.

  8. I really don't know what to think about global warming. I'd like to see data that shows what produces most CO2. I really don't know that. There are many stories and false facts, but there's not much data.

  9. Having a look at comments of my colleagues I realized that some people do not believe in the global warming. As I said before I am not a specialist in this field and I do not have much knowledge about this. However, I think that this unfortunately problem exists. I have never been thinking how I personally can prevent this. I read somewhere that recycling can be helpful, but I need to admit that I do not know anybody who is recycling the garbage. Even though there are lots of bin, where the wastes shall be segregated, rarely I could observe that people are really using them. If there is no place in the regular bin, people are throwing their garbage to the one for plastic or paper for example. This is sad, but this is how the things are.
Taking into consideration the impact of nature vs. the impact of human, for me, it seems obvious that these are human beings who have the negative influence on the environment. As it was mentioned by one of our colleagues, people do everything to make their lives easier, they do not think about the future, just about the present. I am not sure how many people purchasing cars are thinking if the car would be polluting environment. Maybe 2%, or even less. Personally, I am not the expert; I am not sure what to do to help our world. Maybe if there were more publications on this, people would start thinking how to change their present behavior so that their future live could be much easier. ( I mean we would not have to struggle with really hot summers and extremely cold winters).

  10. ;) Stop everything that destroying and start those who help;) it would be the best but it's impossible. Moreover, such changes could be dangerous - I think so.

In My opinion human. But it may be because I usually hear that global warming it's through people.

  11. Yes we can, we must try to save electricity, use out natural transport (muscles) to go to shop or other close places, don’t use always a car and light when sun is up. Use public transport (locomotive is one big CO2 producing transport but can take more people at once that CO2 which will be produce by using 500 cars. We must save trees, save “green places” like brazil which is one off the biggest oxygen producer on our planet.

  12. I don't think that people have a lot to do with global warming.

Recycling is a myth. There only thing which is good to recycle is aluminium. If someone cares abut Co2 levels it is better to use a lot of paper because special tree plantations are grown to produce it, and trees consume CO2.

Reducing meet consumption also would help because cows produce a lot of methane. So vegans are helpful.

  13. It's simple, stop using deodorants ;) Last time I've heard something about global warming was around 15years ago in primary school. Nothing had changed since that day so I suppose the world can handle 'global warming thing' till I die. There is nothing to worry about.

  14. I can say again and again - I don't believe in global warming, it is a natural process which happens from time to time...
